New episode of Holmes Family Rescue airs tonight on HGTV US 9|8c and we’re helping another deserving family — in a case that shows exactly why homeowners need to do their homework.
Tom and Estrella loved their home and just wanted more space to enjoy. But a botched addition and brutal contractor experience left them with nothing but stress.
It didn’t take long to find the problems: dangerous point load issues, water intrusion, and more shortcuts than we could count. But we stepped in to fix the mess and bring some hope back to this home.
You don't want to miss this!

Here’s a question I get asked a lot: is it safe to use your barbecue on your deck? The answer to that is yes – but you still need to take some precautions. Keep the grill a couple of feet from the house, as well as any guardrails and high-traffic areas. Don’t place the barbecue under any overhangs or tree branches.

Many decks are made from wood which means potential for fire. Wood decks and fire safety should always go with one another to properly protect yourself
I love what Generations Master Builder is doing here—installing conduits behind the walls to prep for future solar power.
Whether it’s for an EV charger, solar water heating, or full home energy collection, having this in place now makes future upgrades a whole lot easier—and less expensive.
If you're building a new home, this kind of prep work is a no-brainer. And if you’re renovating and the walls are already open, now’s the time to think about what you might need down the road.
Solar panels might not be in the plan yet, but with the way things are going, having the infrastructure ready means you’re one step ahead.
That’s smart building.
